Through the innovative thinking and modeling that occurs through the James Institute, the Trust commercialises this thinking into it’s technology product offering, through James Technologies (3). These technologies are intended to provide Community Based Organisations (CBOs); a scalable and flexible Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) support, Application (Social sector specific) and Business Intelligence (BI) (for reporting purposes) platform that can either be used as a standalone platform or within an on-demand shared services environment.

TECHNICAL MODEL – MSOVC 1.0

System for Orphan and Vulnerable Children".

MSOVC 1.0 is designed to deliver an integrated data lifecycle, documentation, financial and logistical management system.

Data Management System:

The Trust through, its technical partner Automated Product Development (APD), is customising a product lifecycle management application known as Windchill, in order to build a data management system the characteristics of which, ensure an integral, holistic, scalable web based software solution for the care of children at risk.

Windchill, a PTC owned product, is used by Fortune 500 companies to manage the world’s most complex data and business processes and will, through MSOVC, offer an innovative solution to what is an extremely complex problem, the data management of children at risk.

Financial Management System:

In terms of Financial Management MSOVC has chosen to use SAP Business One as our preferred solution.

Given that clean and efficient financial management is of paramount importance, approved financial structure and flow, a system that can execute this flow is vital to the long term success of this project.

SAP Business One is an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software product from the SAP, and is an all in one Business management tool for small SMME’s.

In terms of market exposure it enjoys international and national support and is a well known “thought leader’ in terms of its branch association”.

In terms of functionality it offers:

  • Customer relationship management
  • Inventory and distribution
  • Ordering and delivery
  • Purchasing and merchandising
  • Production and manufacturing
  • Employees and human resources
  • E-commerce
  • Financial management and accounting

Remote Terminal:

In addition to data and financial management systems, MSOVC 1.0 is also includes a remote terminal capability, the objective of which is to ensure remote (including rural locations) data capturing, secure identification of beneficiaries as well as recording of secure distribution of services and products. All of these will improve capacity for logistical support as well as monitoring and evaluation.

Reliance in this regard is being placed on biometric technology and wireless communication. The remote terminal will enable MSOVC to uniquely identify a recipient, acknowledge secure delivery, capture changes in descriptive attributes and capture the narrative of the beneficiary children and households.
